Bonna Bag on the Radio!

Early this morning (at 8:15am) I visited the East Village Radio studio to chat with Hella and Ruth on the Hella Fabulous show. We talked about Bonna Bag, over weight dogs, George Carlin, Obama/Mccain, and lots of other fun stuff. Also, there was a lot of giggling (hey, I can't be expected to be serious so early in the morning). To listen to the podcast click here and listen to the most recent show. I come on the show about 8 minutes in.

We also discussed the possibility of a Bonna Bag clutch and I brought the prototype into the studio (see images below). The prototype was sticched together by Lizzie Krasner, features a magnet clasp, and a sari lining.

Negligent Blogger

I guess I've been enjoying summer too much because I've completely neglected my Bonna Bag blog duties lately. So sorry for my absence. I hope you will forgive me.

If you missed me at the craft fairs this summer that is because I wasn't there. My weekends were jammed packed with nannying, mural painting, rehearsing for a dance performance, and swimming in a lake. Plus, the bags are always available online and in stores (AuH2O and OAK) so I didn't feel too guilty about missing the fairs.

I have some exciting news to announce for fall! Bonna Bag will be featured in Angela Shelton's new cooking show, Stirring Up Trouble. Angela Shelton is best known for her documentary Searching For Angela Shelton, in which she traveled across the country contacting women with her name as a way of surveying women in America. What she discovered was that "24 out of the 40 Angela Sheltons she spoke to had been raped, beaten or molested." It's a powerful documentary and I suggest you check it out. Her latest project is a cooking show that is sure to be fun and entertaining. During the show you will notice Angela schleping her groceries home from market in her very own Bonna Bag! Stirring Up Trouble premiers September 4th so I'll keep you updated as it approaches. Check out Angela's flickr site for a pic of her with her Bonna Bag: http://www.flickr.com/photos/angelashelton/2655921522/

Also, I posted the video that Rebecca Israel made up top because it's just so much fun and currently hidden in the pages of past blog posts. I guess I should really make a website so that things like that are easier to find, but for now you will just have to live with the blog. I hope you are all enjoying the summer!

Can you find the Bonna Bag?

Recently I've noticed Bonna Bags popping up in photos on facebook. In these shots the bag is not the center of attention, but just a part of the person's everyday life. Can you spot the Bonna Bag in these photos?

Ok, you got me. No Bonna Bag in this shot. I just think it's an amazing photo of my dad and his grandparents.

OAK

So I haven't actually had a chance to get to Boston yet, but I sent one of my trusty Bonna Bag supporters over to OAK to check out the store and how the bags are doing. They were having a grand opening sale that weekend, as you can see by the sale sign hanging above the bags. If you're in Boston and get a chance to go stop by, the store is located at 31 Gloucester st.

Burma Artluck

On Friday night a Bonna Bag could be seen hanging on the wall of Columbia University's Potluck House as part of their "Artluck". The organizers described the event as:

[ARTLUCK] is a night of visual, video, performance, and everything
else art at Potluck House, a communal space for the communal-ing of
artists, gourmands, and activists alike. The event is a fundraiser,
aimed at raising awareness about human rights abuses in Burma. All
proceeds will go to a school in Mae Plah Tah, a village in eastern
Burma.

A Flat Tote Bonna Bag was among the art being raffled off that night and one lucky Columbia student walked home with this bag:

Our second installment of Bonna Bags in Action features Jenn strolling the streets of Manhattan with her Bonna Bag in tow and is accompanied by an anecdote I received via email while I was in New Zealand:

"we were out partying in the east village and i was walking and saw a BONNA BAG, turned around and it was jenn. so i want you to know, even when you're far away, bonna bags are bringing people together all over the world." -Lizzie

Papa's Got a Brand New Bag

It is my pleasure to present the first ever Bonna Bag video! A special thanks to Rebecca Isreal for creating this master piece and to Danny Pickering for the still photography. And of course the cinematic experience you are about to have would not be possible without the rest of my wonderful cast: Gitanjali Dadlani, Jennifer Soria, Molly Ernst-Alper, Ariel Greenberg, and the little girl we met in Riverside Park. Now without any further adu...
